HELP US TO SAVE IT

With 5 beds, Middlegate is open 24/7, 365 days a year and offers drug and alcohol treatment, including detoxification, for to 11-18 year olds; in a safe, rural setting.

It has successfully treated hundreds of young people and last year received an Ofsted ranking as "outstanding". At a time when hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren need help, there is a great need for its unique service. But it is facing closure any day – it almost did a few months ago but got a temporary reprieve.

Fotolia_2719664_Mikael Damkier Middlegate is dying, as will the patients who cannot be admitted, because people who hold the purse strings don't want to pay the £3620 a week it costs to rehab a teen – even though this is less than the cost of a youth detention centre and more effective.

Fotolia_3160246_arkna We need more rehabs in the UK, not to close this ONE rehab. Figures show that 25,000 children need alcohol/drug treatment. The National Treatment Agency publicly claimed that it had "treated" hundreds - but how could this be when they were not sent to the only teen rehab in the country?

In the meantime...

Sarah Graham (Sarah Graham Solutions)  and a leading treatment organisation with vast business expertise are heading up the campaign to save Middlegate, supported by the Addiction Recovery Foundation. We also need your public  support for this appeal . We must raise £250,000  to pay for 5 places for three months to fill Middlegate, to stave off the bank and give the window of opportunity for it to turn into a charity or a non profit making business - to get its beds 'guaranteed' through either block booking or reliable spot purchasing. This will be within a context of long-term strategy for stability, generated by organisations in the field.

Fotolia_786610_Eric Gevaert The money will be raised for 5 'treatment' places. There are many children who need this life saving intervention- in desperate need of being lifted out of their environment and spending time there. If we can raise the money in the next few days there would be the chance of them going there - and not ending up in Feltham or another Youth Offenders Institute

Members of the 'SAVE MIDDLEGATE' campaign visited Middlegate met children whose lives were desperate and have now been transformed - children who were prostituted now getting A stars for their A levels.
