THE ORIGINS AND FUTURE OF UK RECOVERY MOVEMENT

“If I were bold enough to begin to write a history of the recovery movement in the UK (assuming there is such a thing) what would be on the pages? Understanding the genesis, evolution and development of the recovery movement and peer-led recovery support organisations is important,” writes a new blog, bingeinking.com.

“If we know where we’ve come from we might be more sure where we’re going. The mutual aid groups have a place and many rehabs have a long tradition of trying to connect folk to supportive communities, but perhaps more importantly have encouraged us not to settle for too little. Examples of significant influences which might colour the pages of this history could be the UKESAD conferences; Addiction Today; the drugs charities; the candlelit vigils in Liverpool...”
