BACKGROUND
Between 2009-2011, Nice – the National Institute of Health &Clinical Excellence – has been developing three guides relating to alcohol use disorders.
Part 1 is public health guidance, Alcohol use disorders in adults and young people: prevention and early identification. Publication is expected in May 2010. It is being handled by Nice’s Centre for Public Health Excellence.
Part 2 is a clinical guideline, Alcohol use disorders in adults and young people: clinical management. Publication is also expected in May 2010. It is being handled by the National Collaborating Centre for Chronic Conditions.
Part 3 is another clinical guideline, Alcohol use disorders: management of alcohol dependence. Publication is due in January 2011. It is being handled by the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health.
NICE has set up a steering committee to oversee the production of these guides. This group should ensure that the final guidance is complementary and consistent. www.nice.org.uk
