ANOTHER REHAB TO CLOSE
The Norfolk-based Diana Princess of Wales Treatment Centre has failed in its battle to stay open since it went into administration in July 2008.
Receivers say they will try to find new places for the 19 patients being treated there.
The centre was owned by Adapt - Alcohol and Drug Addiction Prevention and Treatment Ltd - whose centre in Somerset closed in July last year.
Ian Carr, partner at Grant Thornton LLP and administrator of Adapt, said: "We have tried to a secure a sale of the centre but this has not proved possible and the ongoing losses mean it is not possible to continue trading.
"It is a real shame that this centre, which has provided the rare service of treatment of drug and alcohol addiction for clients with a dual diagnosis, now has to close."
The administrator now intends to seek a buyer for the centre for an alternative use.
It seems to me that the Government is trying to bring about the closure of "therapeutic communities" because it wants the community as a whole - whatever that is - to become a therapeutic community à la Little House on the Prairie, whereas in reality very vulnerable people in the community can find themselves prey to nasty pieces of stuff once the drugs-workers etc have knocked off for the night or the weekend.
