UKESAD 2009 SPEAKERS IMPRISONED

AlaeiSIGN PETITION TO FREE IRANIAN DOCTORS

Addiction Today's editor was in correpondence with Drs Kamiar and Arash Alaei  about their speaking at UKESAD 2008/9, the charity's popular UK/European Symposium on Addictive Disorders. Their presentation was to be about their work in substance-misuse treatment in Iran, which they based on World Health Organisation (WHO) frameworks. Then they were arrested in June without explanation.

"There is concern that their detainment may be related to their harm reduction work and leadership," states Paola Barahona, MPH, a global health policy associate with Physicians for Human Rights, Washington. She is reaching out to us to consider signing the attached petition to the Government of Iran on behalf of the physician brothers who have been working on HIV and drug use in Iran for many years.

Sign the petition online here.
