This is the beginner’s guide to EFT, or emotional freedom techniques. EFT is one of the many meridian-energy therapies, based on those points familiar to most of us from age-old treatments like acupuncture or acupressure. Advertised as “the best book on EFT”, it has endorsement from well-known supporters such as Deepak Chopra.

EFT developed from the discovery by a Californian doctor that tapping on certain meridian points yielded beneficial and surprising outcomes in patients suffering from phobias, anxieties etc. His work was simplified by one of his students, Gary Craig, who had the brilliant idea of tapping all the meridian points rather than trying to select the correct one.

The first part of the book gives an easy-to-understand explanation of how we can use EFT.  Then follows a section on how we can be limited by emotions attached to memories, and how we can free ourselves from such blocks to recovery. The last half of the book describes the application of EFT in combination with other techniques such as  NLP or on its own as a tool to help with personal  limitations and development.

I am persuaded to try out these techniques. I thoroughly enjoyed Hartmann’s enthusiasm, so was dismayed by some poor editing. Don’t let it put you off reading this.

Anthony Scratchley is a Hazelden-trained counsellor, with some years in practice.
